College Board Shifts SAT, AP Exams to Digital Format Starting May

The College Board, the organization behind the SAT and Advanced Placement (AP) exams, has announced a significant shift to digital formats for both exams, beginning in May 2025. The transition is part of a broader move to modernize testing procedures and improve accessibility for students.

These resources empower students to navigate the Bluebook platform with ease, boosting their confidence for exam day.

Initially, the digital format will be introduced for AP English, AP Psychology, and AP Computer Science exams. Other AP subjects, such as AP Biology and AP Chemistry, will adopt a hybrid format, combining digital multiple-choice questions with traditional paper-based free-response sections. The digital shift will be facilitated through the Bluebook platform, which is already used for SAT exams, ensuring a streamlined experience across both tests.

This transition will allow students to take exams on personal or school-provided devices, including laptops, tablets, and Chromebooks, at designated test centers. The College Board has emphasized that the digital format will be flexible and designed to enhance the testing experience, making it more accessible for students. To ensure a smooth and seamless experience, test centers will be equipped with robust technical support.

A total of 35 AP test centers across the country, including key locations in Delhi/NCR, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, and Chennai, will be equipped to host these digital exams. This widespread availability ensures that students from various regions will have access to the new testing format.

To help students prepare for the transition, the College Board will provide an array of preparation tools. These include test previews, practice exams, and video tutorials, designed to familiarize students with the Bluebook platform and the digital exam format. The goal is to build students' confidence and ensure they are well-prepared for exam day.

In a further development aimed at expanding opportunities for students, Manav Rachna University has partnered with Universal AI University to accept AP credit scores. This collaboration will allow students to use their AP exam results for college credit, opening up pathways for academic advancement.

The move to digital exams is expected to improve flexibility, convenience, and access to high-quality educational assessments, offering a modern testing experience that aligns with the needs of today’s students.
