A 17-year-old girl in Kerala was gang-raped several times by her boyfriend and his friends since 2022.
Five people have been arrested for their alleged involvement in the gangrape of a 17-year-old girl multiple times since December 2022. The incident occurred in Kerala's Pathanamthitta district.
Those arrested include the victim's boyfriend, Sumesh, her friend, Shakti and three of his friends, Anoop, Abhijith and Aravind.
According to the police, Shakti initially befriended the girl in December 2022. Shakti called the girl out of her residence at night and subjected her to sexual assault. Later, Shakti, along with Anoop and his friends Abhijith and Aravind, arrived at the girl's residence. In the presence of Aravind, the three accused gang-raped the minor girl.
The recent assault was done by her boyfriend Sumesh in June. Medical examination confirmed that the girl was the victim of a brutal sexual assault.
The incident came to light during a counselling session at the Child Welfare Committee.
It was then reported to police and a case was registered after recording of victim's detailed statement. The girl then underwent a medical examination. The police have filed four cases under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, including charges of gang rape.
